Non Customer Service

December 8th, 2006 at 10:31 pm

Yesterday was a frustrating day all the way around.

Our phone (and a neighbors) went out on the 5th, so yesterday we called to see what was going on.

You havent paid your bill since September.
Im looking at my WellsFargo account online and it says differently.
Then you have a problem with your bank.
...WellsFargo states you RECIEVED the check. And cashed it.
If we had gotten a payment, we would have put it toward your bill.
You got the payment. Would you like me to fax you proof?
Obviously, you are having trouble with your bank.
No, Im really not. Here's the reference number.
We havent recieved a payment.
But we sent it. The bank says you got it. More importantly, YOU CASHED IT.
I'm sorry, you need to work this out with your bank.

?!?!

I faxed the proof anyway, made the husband call them back and yell. We have a phone.

Oh, AND they were nice enough to give us until the 15th to "pay our bill."

*headdesk*

This is where I would be pounding the handset of the phone on the desk and saying--take that, take that!

Ugh, I HATE utilities with a passion. I think a synonym for utility company is incompetence. I had a similar situation. A month after we moved in, our power went out. Simple problem, they cut us off b/c the people before hadn't been paying, and it wasn't properly switched into our name. Nice of them to give us a notice (we just came home to no power). OK, roommate goes and shows proof we live there, gets it put in his name, we're told they will be out that afternoon. Come home, no power. I call, new story - have to shut off circuit breaker. This repeats for three more days, w/ new stories of what we have to do to get power every day. Monday the power went out. Friday, we finally got it restored, less than thirty minutes after I asked the person on the phone who I needed to send the bills for the hotel we'd been staying at, the restaurants we'd eaten at and all the ruined food we'd had to throw out. Turns out they'd never bothered to send the right crew out. Luckily, we were all able to stay at our respective parent's homes we'd just moved out of, so all we lost was a few food items from the fridge, and barely any of that b/c we took it with us. Sad that it took a threat to get action, and often does. Stupid utilities.

Is there a state regulator for utilties?

If so I'd write to them with a copy to your utility company. That might smarten them up. Sounds like they have a lot of smartening up they need to do! Oh and this might make a great letter to the editor to your local paper. Dang idiots.
